رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله
Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)
الإمام علي عليه السلام: جُبِلَتِ الشَّجاعَةُ عَلى ثَلاثِ طَبائِعَ، لِكُلِّ واحِدَةٍ مِنْهُنَّ فَضِيلَةٌ لَيْسَتْ لِلأُخْرى: السَّخاءُ بِالنَّفْسِ، وَالأَنَفَةُ مِن الذُّلِّ، وَطَلَبُ الذِّكْرِ. فَإِنْ تَكامَلَتْ في الشُّجاعِ كانَ البَطَل الَّذي لا يُقامُ لِسَبيلِهِ، وَالـمَوْسُومَ بِالإقْدامِ في عَصْرِهِ. وَإِنْ تَفاضَلَتْ فِيهِ بَعْضُها عَلى بَعْضٍ كانَتْ شَجاعَتُهُ في ذَلِكَ الَّذي تَفَاضَلَتْ فيهِ أكْثَرَ وَأَشَدَّ إقْداماً
Imam Ali (God’s peace be upon him): “Courage is made depend upon three characters, each of which has an advantage that the others do not have. They are self-generosity, disdaining humility, and seeking fame. If a hero has these characters together, he will be the unbeatable champion and the most famous intrepid. If he enjoys them all in different degrees, he will be more courageous and more intrepid.”
رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله: مَنْ خَرَجَ يَطْلبُ باباً مِنْ عِلْمٍ لِيَرُدَّ بِهِ باطِلاً إلى حَقٍّ أوْ ضَلالَةٍ إلى هُدىً، كانَ عَمَلُهُ ذلِكَ كَعِبَادَةِ مُتَعَبٍّدٍ أرْبَعينَ عاماً
The Messenger of God (God’s blessings be upon him and his Family): Whoever departs from his home in pursuit of knowledge, with the intention of refuting falsehood and establishing the truth, or correcting deviations and affirming true guidance, his deed is equivalent in reward to the devotional acts of a worshipper for forty years.
رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله: أُفٍّ لِرَجُلٍ لا يُفْرِغُ نَفْسَهُ فِي كُلِّ جُمُعَةٍ لِأَمْرِ دِينِهِ فَيَتَعاهَدُهُ وَيَسْأَلُ عَنْ دِينِهِ
The Messenger of God (God’s blessings be upon him and his Family): Woe betide those who do not dedicate Fridays to learning about their religion, making it a habit to inquire about religious matters!
رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله: طَلَبُ العِلْمِ فَريضَةٌ عَلى كُلِّ مُسْلِمٍ. ألَا إِنَّ اللهَ يُحِبُّ بُغَاةَ العِلْمِ
The Messenger of God (God’s blessings be upon him and his Family): Seeking knowledge is a duty that is obligatorily required from each and every Muslim, both males and females. Behold! God does love knowledge-seekers.
رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله: لاَ تَتَّكِلْ عَلى غَيْـرِ اللهِ فَيَكِلُكَ اللهُ إلَيْهِ
The Messenger of God (God’s blessings be upon him and his Family): Never rely on any other one than God, for if you do, God will leave you and relegate you to him.
رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله: مَنْ كانَ أكثرُ هَمِّهِ نَيْلَ الشَّهَواتِ نُزِعَ مِن قَلْبهِ حَلاوَةُ الإيـمانِ
The Messenger of God (God’s blessings be upon him and his Family): He, whose greatest concern is fulfilling his own desires, has the sweetness of faith wrested from his heart.
رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله: طَلَبُ العِلْمِ فَرِيضَةٌ عَلَى كُلِّ مُسْلِمٍ وَمُسْلِمَةٍ
The Messenger of God (God’s blessings be upon him and his Family): “Seeking knowledge is a duty that is obligatorily required from each and every Muslim, both males and females.
رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله: مَنْ مَنَّ اللهُ عَلَيهِ بِمَعرِفةِ أَهْلِ بَيتي وَوِلايَتِهِمْ، فَقَدْ جَمَعَ اللهُ لَهُ الخَيرَ كُلَّهُ
The Messenger of God (God’s blessings be upon him and his Family): He, whom God grants the blissful favour of recognizing my Family and acknowledging their religious and mundane leadership, has been granted the prosperity of both this world and the World Hereafter.
رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله: إنَّ اللهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ يَقُولُ: تَذَاكُرُ العِلْمِ بَينَ عِبادِي مِمَّا تُحْيَى عَلَيْهِ القُلوبُ المَيتَةُ إذا هُمُ انتَهَوْا فِيهِ إلَى أمْرِي
The Messenger of God (God’s blessings be upon him and his Family): God the Almighty and All-Majestic declares: When My servants exchange views on matters of knowledge with the intention of acquainting themselves with My commands, it is one of the actions that revives dead hearts.
رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله: مَنْ يُرِدِ اللهُ بِهِ خَيْراً يُفَقِّهْهُ فِي الدِّينِ
The Messenger of God (God’s blessings be upon him and his Family): When God wants good for a servant of Him, He grants him experience in the religious sciences.
The Holy Prophet: Every human being must have two natures; one is interior (secret) and the other exterior (public). So, whoever sets aright his interior, God shall set aright his exterior, but whoever holds a negative interior, God shall ruin his exterior.
رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله: مَا مِنْ عَبْدٍ إِلَّا وَلَهُ جَوَّانِيٌّ وَبَرَّانِيٌّ – يَعْنِي سَرِيرَةً وَعَلَانِيَةً – فَمَنْ أَصْلَحَ جَوَّانِيَّهُ أَصْلَحَ اللَّهُ (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) بَرَّانِيَّه مَنْ أَفْسَدَ جَوَّانِيَّهُ أَفْسَدَ اللَّهُ بَرَّانِيَّهُ
The Holy Prophet: To worship God whilst devouring ill-gotten food is like building on sand.
رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله: الْعِبَادَةُ مَعَ أَكْلِ الْحَرَامِ كَالْبِنَاءِ عَلَى الرَّمْلِ.
The Holy Prophet: Whoever assumes leadership over Muslims while he knows that there is amongst them someone more entitled to this office than he is, has in fact betrayed God, His Apostle and Muslims.
رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله: مَن تَقَدَّمَ عَلَى المُسلِمِينَ وَهُوَ يَرَى أنَّ فِيهِم مَن هُوَ أفضَلُ مِنهُ، فَقَد خَانَ اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ وَالمُسلِمِينَ.
The Holy Prophet: Honor your children and educate them excellently so that you will be forgiven.
رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله: أَكْرِمُوا أَوْلَادَكُمْ، وَأَحْسِنُوا أَدَبَهُمْ يُغْفَرْ لَكُمْ
The Holy Prophet: Whoever starts his day without caring for Muslims’ affairs, is not a Muslim.
رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله: مَنْ أَصْبَحَ لَا يَهْتَمُّ بِأُمُورِ الْمُسْلِمِينَ فَلَيْسَ بِمُسْلِمٍ
The Holy Prophet: To look at one’s parents with compassionate and merciful looks is a devotional act.
رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله: النَّظَرُ إِلَى الْوَالِدَيْنِ بِرَأْفَةٍ وَرَحْمَةٍ عِبَادَةٌ
The Holy Prophet: A timid trader shall be deprived of sustenance, while an adventurous trader shall be granted sustenance.
رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله: التَّاجِرُ الْجَبَانُ مَحْرُومٌ، وَالتَّاجِرُ الْجَسُورُ مَرْزُوقٌ.
The Holy Prophet: Verily, I do not like the pretentious people.
رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله: إِنِّي لَا أُحِبُّ الْمُتَكَلِّفِينَ
The Holy Prophet: None can be dearer to God than the repentant believers, both males and females.
رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله: لَيْسَ شَيْءٌ أَحَبَّ إِلَى اللَّهِ مِنْ مُؤْمِنٍ تَائِبٍ أَوْ مُؤْمِنَةٍ تَائِبَةٍ
The Holy Prophet: After belief in God, the top of rationality is to endear oneself to people and to do favors to them, be they righteous or wicked.
رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله: رَأْسُ الْعَقْلِ بَعْدَ الْإِيمَانِ بِاللَّهِ التَّوَدُّدُ إِلَى النَّاسِ وَاصْطِنَاعُ الْخَيْرِ إِلَى كُلِّ بِرٍّ وَفَاجِرٍ
The Holy Prophet: He who wishes to be the strongest of all people may put his trust in God.
رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله: مَنْ أَحَبَّ أَنْ يَكُونَ أَقْوَى النَّاسِ فَلْيَتَوَكَّلْ عَلَى اللَّهِ
The Holy Prophet: The least delighted of all people is the envious. And the least restful of all people is the miserly.
رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله: أَقَلُّ النَّاسِ لَذَّةً الْحَسُودُ وَأَقَلُّ النَّاسِ رَاحَةً الْبَخِيلُ
الإمام علي (ع)
Imam Ali (a.s)
الإمام علي عليه السلام: أُمْنُنْ عَلى مَنْ شِئْتَ تَكُنْ أَميرَهُ، وَاحْتَجْ إِلى مَنْ شِئْتَ تَكُنْ أَسِيرَهُ، وَاسْتَغْنِ عَمَّنْ شِئْتَ تَكُنْ نَظيرَهُ
Imam Ali (God’s peace be upon him): “If you render a favor to someone, you will be his master. If you need someone, you will be his captive. And if you dispense with someone, you will be an equal to him.”
الإمام علي عليه السلام: قَدْرُ الرَّجُلِ عَلَى قَدْرِ هِمَّتِهِ، وَصِدْقُهُ عَلى قَدْرِ مُرُوَّتِهِ، وَشَجاعَتُهُ عَلى قَدْرِ أَنَفَتِهِ
Imam Ali (God’s peace be upon him): The worth of a man is according to his courage, his truthfulness is according to his balance of temper, his valour is according to his self-respect and his chasteness is according to his sense of shame.
الإمام علي عليه السلام: صَلاحُ النَّفْسِ مُجاهَدَةُ الهَوى
Imam Ali (God’s peace be upon him): “Reform of the soul is achieved through the struggle against vain desires.”
الإمام علي عليه السلام: إمْلِكوا أنْفُسَكُمْ بِدَوامِ جِهادِها
Imam Ali (God’s peace be upon him): “Gain control over your soul through persistence struggle against it.”
الإمام علي عليه السلام: سَبَبُ صَلاحِ النَّفْسِ العُزُوفُ عَنِ الدُّنْيا
Imam Ali (God’s peace be upon him): Renouncing the pleasures of this world is the path to purifying the soul.
الإمام علي عليه السلام: الشَّاخِصُ فِي طَلَبِ العِلْمِ كَالْمُجَاهِدِ فِي سَبيلِ اللهِ. إنَّ طَلَبَ العِلْمِ فَريضَةٌ عَلى كُلِّ مُسْلِمٍ. وَكَمْ مِنْ مُؤْمِنٍ يَخْرُجُ مِنْ مَنْزِلِهِ فِي طَلَبِ العِلْمِ فَلا يَرْجِعُ إلَّا مَغْفُوراً (لَهُ)
Imam Ali (God’s peace be upon him): One who strives to seek knowledge is granted the same reward as one who fights in the cause of God. Indeed, seeking knowledge is a duty incumbent upon all Muslims. Many are the believers who leave their homes in pursuit of knowledge, and they do not return before all their sins are forgiven.
الإمام علي عليه السلام: ثَمَرَةُ العِلمِ مَعرِفَةُ اللهِ
Imam Ali (God’s peace be upon him): Recognition of God is the fruit of knowledge.
الإمام علي عليه السلام: مَنْ عَرفَ اللهَ كَمُلَتْ مَعْرِفَتُهُ
Imam Ali (God’s peace be upon him): Whoever recognizes God as He should be recognized, has attained perfect knowledge.
Imam Ali: He who economizes shall never undergo deficiency.
الإمام علي أمير المؤمنين: مَا عَالَ مَنِ اقْتَصَدَ
Imam Ali: Trustworthiness expands sustenance.
الإمام علي أمير المؤمنين: الْأَمَانَةُ تَجُرُّ الرِّزْقَ
Imam Ali: Indeed, brief speech is enough and fair eloquence.
الإمام علي أمير المؤمنين: قَدْ يُكْتَفَى مِنَ الْبَلَاغَةِ بِالْإِيجَازِ
Imam Ali: Faith is heartfelt recognition, oral profession and putting into practice the pillar parts (of the religion).
الإمام علي أمير المؤمنين: الْإِيمَانُ مَعْرِفَةٌ بِالْقَلْبِ وَإِقْرَارٌ بِاللِّسَانِ وَعَمَلٌ بِالْأَرْكَانِ
Imam Ali: To manage your affairs before starting an activity saves you from regret.
الإمام علي أمير المؤمنين: التَّدْبِيرُ قَبْلَ الْعَمَلِ يُؤْمِنُكَ مِنَ النَّدَمِ
Imam Ali: One who respects himself will see his sensual desires too frivolous to follow.
الإمام علي أمير المؤمنين: مَنْ كَرُمَتْ عَلَيْهِ نَفْسُهُ هَانَتْ عَلَيْهِ شَهَوَاتُهُ
Imam Ali: Fragrance is a healing source. Honey is a healing source. Riding is a healing source. And looking at the greenery is a healing source.
الإمام علي: الطِّيبُ نُشْرَةٌ وَالْعَسَلُ نُشْرَةٌ وَالرُّكُوبُ نُشْرَةٌ وَالنَّظَرُ إِلَى الْخُضْرَةِ نُشْرَةٌ
Imam Ali: Overpraising is a sort of cajole. And failing to praise duly is a sign of grudge or envy.
الإمام علي: الثَّنَاءُ بِأَكْثَرَ مِنَ الِاسْتِحْقَاقِ مَلَقٌ وَالتَّقْصِيرُ عَنِ الِاسْتِحْقَاقِ عِيٌّ أَوْ حَسَدٌ
Imam Ali: O son of Adam (i.e., human being)! Whatever you earn beyond your need will make you no more than a keeper of others’ fortunes.
الإمام علي: يَا ابْنَ آدَمَ مَا كَسَبْتَ فَوْقَ قُوَّتِكَ فَأَنْتَ فِيهِ خَازِنٌ لِغَيْرِكَ
Imam Ali: Man shall be adjoined to the one he loves.
الإمام علي: يُحْشَرُ الْمَرْءُ مَعَ مَنْ أَحَبَّ
Imam Ali: A true faithful believer is he who always shows happy miens apparently and hides his sadness in his heart.
الإمام علي: الْمُؤْمِنُ بِشْرُهُ فِي وَجْهِهِ وَحُزْنُهُ فِي قَلْبِهِ
Imam Ali: No life can be more pleasant than good manners.
الإمام علي: لَا عَيْشَ أَلَذُّ مِنْ حُسْنِ الْخُلُقِ
الإمام الباقر عليه السلام (ع)
Imam Al-Baqir (a.s)
الإمام الباقر عليه السلام: إِنَّ الَّذِي تَعَلَّمَ العِلْمَ مِنْكُمْ لَهُ أَجْرُ مِثْلِ الَّذِي يُعَلِّمُهُ، وَلَهُ الفَضْلُ عَلَيْهِ. تَعَلَّمُوا العِلْمَ مِنْ حَمَلَةِ الِعلْمِ، وَعَلِّمُوهُ إخْوانَكُمْ كَما عَلَّمَكُمُ العُلَماءُ
Imam al-Baqir (God’s peace be upon him): “Indeed, those among you who acquire knowledge will receive the same reward as those who teach it, though teachers of knowledge are still preferred over learners. Acquire knowledge from its rightful holders and impart it to your fellow believers as same as you have received it from scholars.
الإمام الصادق (ع)
Imam Al-Sadiq (a.s)
الإمام الصادق عليه السلام: سِتَّةٌ لا تَكونُ مِنْ مُؤْمِنٍ: العُسْرُ، وَالنَّكَدُ، وَاللِّجاجَةُ، وَالكَذِبُ، وَالـحَسَدُ، وَالبَغْيُ
Imam al-Sadiq (God’s peace be upon him): “A true faithful believer should not exhibit these six flaws: harshness, gloominess, stubbornness, dishonesty, envy, and wrongdoing.”
الإمام الصادق عليه السلام: مَنْ رَعى قَلْبَهُ عَن الغَفْلَةِ وَنَفْسَهُ عَنِ الشَّهْوَةِ وَعَقْلَهُ عَن الجَهْلِ، فَقَدْ دَخَلَ في دِيوانِ الـمُتَنَبِّهِينَ. ثُمَّ مَنْ رَعى عِلْمَهُ عَن الهضوى وَدينَهُ عَنِ البِدْعَةِ وَمَالَهُ عَن الحَرامِ فَهُوَ مِنْ جُمْلَةِ الصّالِحينَ
Imam al-Sadiq (God’s peace be upon him): “Whoever guards his heart from heedlessness, protects his self from appetites, and guards his intellect from ignorance, will be admitted into the company of the vigilant. Then he who guards his knowledge from fancies, his faith from innovation, and his property from the forbidden is among the righteous.”
الإمام الصادق عليه السلام: أَيَّما مُؤْمِنٍ أَتاهُ أَخُوهُ في حَاجَةٍ فَإِنَّما ذَلِكَ رَحْمَةٌ ساقَها اللهُ إلَيْهِ، وَسَبَّبَها لَهُ. فَإِنْ قَضى حاجَتَهُ كانَ قَد قَبِلَ الرَّحْمَةَ لِقَبُولِها، وَإِنْ رَدَّهُ عَنْ حاجَتِهِ وَهُوَ يَقْدِرُ عَلى قَضائِها فَإِنَّما رَدَّ عَنْ نَفْسِهِ الرَّحْمَةَ الَّتي سَاقَها اللهُ إلَيْهِ
Imam al-Sadiq (God’s peace be upon him): “When a believer’s assistance is sought by a brother-in-faith, this is in fact a blessing from God Who has guided him to this source of help. So, if he fulfils this request, this signifies accepting the blessing through one’s aid. Conversely, refusing to help when capable of doing so means rejecting the blessings that God has directed towards oneself.”
الإمام الصادق عليه السلام: لَوْ عَلِمَ النَّاسُ ما في العِلْمِ لَطَلَبوهُ وَلَوْ بِسَفْكِ الـمُهَجِ وَخَوْضِ اللُّجَجِ
Imam al-Sadiq (God’s peace be upon him): If people knew the benefits of seeking knowledge, they would seek it even if they had to sacrifice their souls or dive themselves into the deepest seas.
Imam Al-Sadiq: Most certainly, profligacy is always associated by lack of blessing.
الإمام الصادق: إِنَّ مَعَ الْإِسْرَافِ قِلَّةَ الْبَرَكَةِ
Imam Al-Sadiq: Beware of committing things because of which you will then have to make an apology. Verily, a true faithful believer is he who does not mistreat others and then he has to apologize.
الإمام الصادق: إِيَّاكُمْ وَمَا يُعْتَذَرُ مِنْهُ فَإِنَّ الْمُؤْمِنَ لَا يُسِيءُ وَلَا يَعْتَذِرُ
Imam Al-Sadiq: Religiousness is ruined by envy, self-conceit and boasting.
الإمام الصادق: آفَةُ الدِّينِ الْحَسَدُ وَالْعُجْبُ وَالْفَخْرُ
Imam Al-Sadiq: Whoever treats his family members excellently, will have his lifetime extended for him.
الإمام الصادق: مَنْ حَسُنَ بِرُّهُ بِأَهْلِهِ زِيدَ فِي عُمُرِهِ
Imam Al-Sadiq: Whoever acts fanatically, God shall tie him with a bond of fire.
الإمام الصادق: مَنْ تَعَصَّبَ عَصَبَهُ اللَّهُ بِعِصَابَةٍ مِنْ نَارٍ
Imam Al-Sadiq: Do not inspect people; otherwise, you will be friendless.
الإمام الصادق: لَا تُفَتِّشِ النَّاسَ فَتَبْقَى بِلَا صَدِيقٍ
Imam Al-Sadiq: Indeed, little deed with piety to God is better than much deed without piety to Him.
الإمام الصادق: إِنَّ قَلِيلَ الْعَمَلِ مَعَ التَّقْوَى خَيْرٌ مِنْ كَثِيرِ الْعَمَلِ بِلَا تَقْوَى
Imam Al-Sadiq: A favor cannot be consummated unless these three features are applied to it: [1] it is done as immediate as possible, [2] it is deemed insignificant, and [3] it is done covertly.
الإمام الصادق: لَا يَتِمُّ الْمَعْرُوفُ إِلَّا بِثَلَاثَةٍ تَعْجِيلِهِ وَتَصْغِيرِهِ وَسَتْرِهِ
Imam Al-Sadiq: When there is a group of three persons, it is not allowed for two of them to whisper secretly without associating their third companion with them. Such secret whispering will certainly injure and depress their companion.
الإمام الصادق: إِذَا كَانَ الْقَوْمُ ثَلَاثَةً فَلَا يَتَنَاجَى مِنْهُمُ اثْنَانِ دُونَ صَاحِبِهِمَا فَإِنَّ فِي ذَلِكَ مَا يَحْزُنُهُ وَيُؤْذِيهِ
Imam Al-Sadiq: The most perfect-minded of all people are the most well-mannered amongst them.
الإمام الصادق: أَكْمَلُ النَّاسِ عَقْلًا أَحْسَنُهُمْ خُلُقاً
الإمام الجواد (ع)
Imam Al-Jawad (a.s)
الإمام الجواد عليه السلام: إِنَّ مَنْ وَثَقَ بِاللهِ أَراهُ السُّرورَ، وَمَنْ تَوَكَّلَ عَلى اللهِ كَفاهُ الأُمورَ. وَالثِّقَةُ بِاللهِ حِصْنٌ لا يَتَحَصَّنُ فِيه إِلَّا المُؤْمِنُ. وَالتَّوَكُّلُ عَلى اللهِ نَجاةٌ مِنْ كُلِّ سوءٍ وَحِرْزٌ مِنْ كُلِّ عَدُوٍّ
Imam al-Jawad (God’s peace be upon him): “Whoever places their trust in God will be granted joy, and whoever relies on God will be saved from all abominable vicissitudes. Trust in God is a fortress that only true believers seek. Reliance on God ensures deliverance from all evils and protection from all enemies.”
الإمام الجواد عليه السلام: إِنَّ للهِ عِبادًا يَخُصُّهُمْ بِدَوامِ النِّعَمِ، فَلا تَزالُ فِيهِمْ ما بَذَلوا لَها، فَإِذا مَنَعوها نَزَعَها عَنْهُمْ وَحَوَّلَها إِلى غَيْرِهِمْ
Imam al-Jawad (God’s peace be upon him): “Some of His servants, God Almighty grants them uninterrupted blessings exclusively. They thus enjoy such blessings as long as they give to charity. As soon as they stop giving to charity, God will deprive them of these blessings and give them to others.”
الإمام الجواد عليه السلام: ما شَكَرَ اللهَ أَحَدٌ عَلى نِعْمَةٍ أَنْعَمَها عَلَيهِ إِلَّا اسْتَوْجَبَ بِذلِكَ المَزِيدَ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَظْهَرَ على لِسانِهِ
Imam al-Jawad (God’s peace be upon him): “No one expresses gratitude to God Almighty for a blessing He has bestowed without having already deserved even more before voicing thanks.”
الإمام الجواد عليه السلام: التَّحَفُّظُ عَلى قَدْرِ الخَوْفِ، وَالطَّمَعُ عَلى قَدْرِ النَّيْلِ
Imam al-Jawad (God’s peace be upon him): “The more fearful a person is, the more cautious he becomes. Similarly, the more one acquires, the greedier he becomes.”
الإمام الجواد عليه السلام: كُفْرُ النِّعْمَةِ داعِيَةٌ لِلْمَقْتِ
Imam al-Jawad (God’s peace be upon him): “Ingratitude begets hatred.”
الإمام الجواد عليه السلام: كَفى بِالمَرْءِ خِيانَةً أَنْ يَكونَ أَمينًا لِلْخَوَنَةِ
Imam al-Jawad (God’s peace be upon him): “It is enough for one to be considered a betrayer if he is the trustee of the betrayers.”
الإمام الجواد عليه السلام: العافِيَةُ أَحْسَنُ عَطاءٍ
Imam al-Jawad (God’s peace be upon him): “Wellbeing is the best of all bestowals.”
الإمام الجواد عليه السلام: الحَوائِجُ تُطْلَبُ بِالرَّجاءِ، وَهِيَ تَنْزِلُ بِالقَضاءِ
Imam al-Jawad (God’s peace be upon him): “Requests are earnestly besought (from God), but they are granted based on interests.”
الإمام الجواد عليه السلام: لا تَكُنْ وَلِيًّا للهِ في العَلانِيَةِ، عَدُوًّا لَهُ في السِّرِّ
Imam al-Jawad (God’s peace be upon him): “Do not ostentatiously pretend to be a sincere servant of God while secretly being His enemy.”
الإمام الجواد عليه السلام: راكِبُ الشَّهَواتِ لا تُقالُ عَثْرَتُهُ
Imam al-Jawad (God’s peace be upon him): “Those who intentionally indulge in their sensual desires will not have their transgressions overlooked.”
الإمام الجواد عليه السلام: العُلُماءُ غُرَباءٌ لِكَثْرَةِ الجُهَّالِ بَيْنَهُمْ
Imam al-Jawad (God’s peace be upon him): “Knowledgeable people often feel isolated because they are frequently surrounded by ignorant people.”
الإمام الجواد عليه السلام: تَأْخيرُ التَّوْبَةِ اغْتِرارٌ، وَطُولُ التَّسْويفِ حَيْرَةٌ
Imam al-Jawad (God’s peace be upon him): “Delaying repentance stems from deception, and excessive procrastination leads to confusion.”
الإمام الجواد عليه السلام: العامِلُ بِالظُّلْمِ، وَالمُعِينُ عَلَيْهِ، وَالرَّاضِي بِهِ شُرَكاءُ ثَلاثَتُهُمْ
Imam al-Jawad (God’s peace be upon him): “The one who commits wrongdoing, the one who assists, and the one who condones it—these three are equally culpable.”
الإمام الجواد عليه السلام: مَوْتُ الإِنْسانِ بِالذُّنُوبِ أَكْثَرُ مِنْ مَوْتِهِ بِالأَجَلِ. وَحَياتُهُ بِالبِرِّ أَكْثَرُ مِنْ حَياتِهِ بِالعُمُرِ
Imam al-Jawad (God’s peace be upon him): “Man perishes more from sinning than from natural causes. Similarly, a person’s life is greatly extended by good deeds beyond his natural lifespan.”
الإمام الجواد عليه السلام: إِيَّاكَ وَمُصاحَبَةَ الشِّرِّيرِ، فَإِنَّهُ كالسَّيْفِ الـمَسْلُولِ؛ يَحْسُنُ مَنْظَرُهُ وَيَقْبُحُ أَثَرُهُ
Imam al-Jawad (God’s peace be upon him): “Be cautious of associating with bad people; they are like unsheathed swords—appealing in appearance, but their consequences are deadly.”
الإمام الجواد عليه السلام: ما اسْتَوى رَجُلانِ في حَسَبٍ وَدِينٍ إلَّا كانَ أفْضَلَهُما عِنْدَ اللهِ أَأْدَبُهُما
Imam al-Jawad (God’s peace be upon him): “When two individuals are equal in pedigree and faith, the one with better manners is always superior.”
الإمام الجواد عليه السلام: ما هَدَمَ الدِّينَ مِثْلُ البِدَعِ، وَلا أَفْسَدَ الرِّجالَ مِثْلُ الطَّمَعِ، وَبِالرّاعي تَصْلُحُ الرَّعِيَّةُ، وَبِالدُّعاءِ تُصْرَفُ البَلِيَّةُ
Imam al-Jawad (God’s peace be upon him): “Nothing destroys religion more than heresies. Nothing corrupts people more than greed. When a leader is righteous, the people follow in righteousness. Misfortunes are averted through supplication to God.”
الإمام الجواد عليه السلام: الدِّينُ عِزٌّ، وَالعِلْمُ كَنْزٌ، وَالصَّمْتُ نُورٌ
Imam al-Jawad (God’s peace be upon him): “Faith brings dignity. Knowledge is a treasure. And silence offers illumination.”
الإمام الجواد عليه السلام: تَوَسَّدِ الصَّبْرَ، وَاعْتَنِقِ الفَقْرَ، وَارْفُضِ الشَّهَواتِ، وَخالِفِ الهَوى. وَاعْلَمْ أَنَّكَ لَنْ تَخْلُوَ مِنْ عَينِ اللهِ، فَانْظُرْ كَيْفَ تَكُونُ
Imam al-Jawad (God’s peace be upon him): “Commit yourself to steadfastness, embrace humility, reject sensual desires, resist your passions, and always remember that you are never out of God’s sight. Reflect on how you should conduct yourself accordingly.”
الإمام الجواد عليه السلام: عِزُّ المُؤْمِنِ غِناهُ عَن النَّاسِ
Imam al-Jawad (God’s peace be upon him): “The true honour of believers lies in their independence from needing others.”
الإمام الجواد عليه السلام: المُؤْمِنُ يَحتاجُ إلى تَوْفيقٍ مِنَ اللهِ وَواعِظٍ مِنْ نَفْسِهِ وَقَبولٍ مِمَّنْ يَنْصَحُهُ
Imam al-Jawad (God’s peace be upon him): “A true faithful believer is in incessant need for three characteristics: [1] success granted by God, [2] self-preaching, and [3] approving of the others’ advices.”
الإمام الجواد عليه السلام: لَوْ سَكَتَ الجاهِلُ ما اخْتَلَفَ النَّاسُ
Imam al-Jawad (God’s peace be upon him): “If the ignorant keep silent, people will never enter into disagreements.”
الإمام الجواد عليه السلام: النَّاسُ إخْوانٌ؛ فَمَنْ كانَتْ أُخُوَّتُهُ في غَيرِ ذاتِ اللهِ فَهِي عَداوَةٌ
Imam al-Jawad (God’s peace be upon him): “People are brothers to one another. However, brotherhood that is not founded on God’s sake is actually enmity.”
الإمام الجواد عليه السلام: النَّاسُ أَشْكالٌ، وَكُلٌّ يَعْمَلُ عَلى شاكِلَتِهِ
Imam al-Jawad (God’s peace be upon him): “People are of miscellaneous moulds. And each one acts according to his own mould.”
الإمام الجواد عليه السلام: أَرْبَعٌ خِصالٍ تُعينُ المَرْءَ عَلى العَمَلِ: الصِّحَّةُ، وَالغِنى، وَالعِلْمُ وَالتَّوفيقُ
Imam al-Jawad (God’s peace be upon him): “These four blessings help man work diligently: good health, wealth, knowledge and God-granted success.”
الإمام الجواد عليه السلام: ثَلاثٌ يَبْلُغْنَ بِالعَبْدِ رِضْوانَ اللهِ تَعالى: كَثْرَةُ الإسْتِغْفارِ، وَخَفْضُ الجَانِبِ، وَكَثْرَةُ الصَّدَقَةِ
Imam al-Jawad (God’s peace be upon him): “These three qualities help a servant of God attain God’s pleasure: persistence in seeking God’s forgiveness, affability towards people, and frequent giving of charity.”
الإمام الجواد عليه السلام: ثَلاثَةٌ مَنْ كُنَّ فيهِ لَمْ يَنْدَمْ: تَرْكُ العَجَلَةِ، وَالمَشورَةُ، وَالتَّوَكُّلُ عَلى اللهِ تَعالى عِنْدَ العَزِيمَةِ
Imam al-Jawad (God’s peace be upon him): “Whoever enjoys these three qualities, will never regret anything: unhurriedness, seeking advice from others, and placing trust in God Almighty upon making decisions.”
الإمام الجواد عليه السلام: ثَلاثُ خِصالٍ تَجْلِبُ فِيهِنَّ المَوَدَّةَ: الإِنْصافُ في المُعاشَرَةِ، وَالمُواساةُ في الشِّدَّةِ، وَالانْطِواءُ عَلى قَلْبٍ سَليمٍ
Imam al-Jawad (God’s peace be upon him): “Lovability is achieved through these three qualities: fairness in relationships, support during difficult times, and a pure heart.”
الإمام الجواد عليه السلام: القَصْدُ إلى اللهِ تَعالى بِالقُلوبِ أَبْلَغُ مِن إِتْعابِ الجَوارِحِ بِالأَعْمالِ
Imam al-Jawad (God’s peace be upon him): “Connecting with God is more effective through the heart than through physical actions, as spiritual movements are more powerful than physical ones.”
الإمام الجواد عليه السلام: أَفْضَلُ العِبادَةِ الإخْلاصُ
Imam al-Jawad (God’s peace be upon him): “Sincerity in worship is the best of all devotional acts.”
الإمام الجواد عليه السلام: كَيْفَ يَضيعُ مِنَ اللهِ كافِلُهُ؟ وَكَيفَ يَنْجو مِن اللهِ طالِبُهُ؟ وَمَنِ انْقَطَعَ إلى غَيْرِ اللهِ وَكَلَهُ اللهُ إلَيْهِ
Imam al-Jawad (God’s peace be upon him): “How can he, whose sponsor is God, be lost? And how can he, whom is purchased by God, survive? Whoever devotes his affairs to any other one than God, God will leave him to that one.”
الإمام الجواد عليه السلام: نِعْمَةٌ لا تُشْكَرُ كَسَيِّئَةٍ لا تُغْفَرُ
Imam al-Jawad (God’s peace be upon him): “A depreciated blessing is equivalent to an unforgivable sin.”
الإمام الجواد عليه السلام: مَنْ أصْغى إِلى ناطِقٍ فَقَدْ عَبَدَهُ، فَإنْ كانَ النَّاطِق عَنِ اللهِ فَقَدْ عَبَدَ اللهَ. وَإِنْ كانَ النَّاطِقُ يَنْطِقُ عَنْ لِسانِ إِبْليسَ فَقَدْ عَبَدَ إِبْليسَ
Imam al-Jawad (God’s peace be upon him): “Whoever listens to a caller has served him. If the caller was God’s representative, he has then served God. But if the caller was Satan’s representative, he has then served Satan.”
Imam Al-Jawad: Whoever deems favorable an evildoing is considered to have participated therein.
الإمام الجواد عليه السلام: مَنِ اسْتَحْسَنَ قَبِيحاً كَانَ شَرِيكاً فِيهِ

Imam Al-Kazhim: Good neighborhood is not to stop hurting your neighbor. Rather, it is to tolerate patiently the hurts of your neighbor.
الإمام الكاظم: لَيْسَ حُسْنُ الْجِوَارِ كَفَّ الْأَذَى، وَلكِنَّ حُسْنَ الْجِوَارِ صَبْرُكَ عَلَى الْأَذَى

Imam Al-Ridha: True worship is not measured by how many prayers are performed and offered or how many days are fasted. In fact, true worship is to meditate deeply upon the affairs of God the Almighty and All-majestic.
الإمام الرضا: لَيْسَ الْعِبَادَةُ كَثْرَةَ الصَّلَاةِ وَالصَّوْمِ إِنَّمَا الْعِبَادَةُ التَّفَكُّرُ فِي أَمْرِ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ
Imam Al-Ridha: A true believer is he who feels happy when he does a good deed and prays God to forgive him when he commits an evildoing.
الإمام الرضا: الْمُؤْمِنُ الَّذِي إِذَا أَحْسَنَ اسْتَبْشَرَ وَإِذَا أَسَاءَ اسْتَغْفَرَ
